John H. Loughman of East Durham died January 19, 2012 at Ellis Hospital surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in the Bronx on April 27, 1942. He was the son of Loretta Loughman of Cairo and the late Edward Loughman.

John was a resident of Cairo and East Durham since 1974, He served in The U.S. Navy, was a NY Police Officer and owned and operated Loughman Lumber on City Island then Cairo.

John believed that love and friendship gave life purpose. He was a kind soul who embraced life and brought happiness to the many lives he was part of.

Survivors include his mother Loretta Loughman of Cairo, five brothers: Edward of Virginia, Thomas of Connecticut, James of New Jersey, William of Georgia and Daniel of Acra; two sisters Ann Loughman of Albany and Lore Brady of Virginia; 29 nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at Richards Funeral Home, 29 Bross Street, Cairo, on Monday, January 23, 2012, from 4-8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, Cairo. Interment will follow with full military honors in The Wooster Cemetery in Danbury, CT.
